Q: Why are you riding in Tour de Cure?

“Cancer unfortunately has played a big role in my family over the last decade with the loss of my closest Uncle four years ago and the diagnosis of my mom with stage four cancer two years ago. With so many years of feeling at the whim of cancer, riding in the Tour de Cure feels like a powerful place to channel a lot of that frustration and grief and fight back. Our MT team’s focus on improving the Indigenous cancer experience is also incredibly important to me, my own community, and the Nations we serve.”

Q: What’s your fundraising goal? How much have you raised thus far?

“I set my sights on $5,000 and have raised nearly $6,000.”

Q: How do you plan on achieving your goal? What are your favourite parts/strategies for fundraising?

“I tried to focus on the importance of the work that BC Cancer undertakes to overcome the discomfort of asking those near and dear to me for contributions. Once I had a solid message formed, it became a lot easier to get creative on who might share my passion for fighting cancer and more particularly, in improving cancer outcomes within our Indigenous communities. I was also really fortunate to have a couple of key family members who got out and hustled on my behalf.”

Q: If you’ve ridden before, tell us about your favorite or most memorable ride experience. If you haven’t, what got you to join and what are you looking forward to?

“I’ve never ridden before, but I’m really excited to be amongst the momentum of hundreds of riders all showing up to fight for a world without cancer. Being amongst survivors and those that care for survivors will be a really powerful moment. And hopefully, one that will sustain me for 50 kilometers!”
