Karissa is known for her thoughtful and calm approach to legal practice. She has a strong understanding of the unique considerations involved in Indigenous business dealings, and works with care and respect to help clients achieve their goals.

Karissa has her own, independent legal practice that she operates under Karissa Kelln Legal Prof. Corp., but she works closely with the MT+Co. team as an independent contractor.

EXPERTISE

Karissa’s legal practice focuses on Indigenous real estate and economic development. She has significant experience navigating the different land regimes that govern Indigenous lands, including the leasing and development of Certificate of Possession, Land Code, and treaty settlement lands. Karissa also regularly advises clients on corporate structuring, business entity formation, Limited Partnership and Joint Venture Agreements, and buying and selling businesses.

Equality among groups of people and taking care of the environment for future generations are two principles that inform Karissa’s personal and professional lives.

Outside of work, Karissa enjoys spending time with her family (including her energetic Australian Shepherd pup), exploring different lakes, and has at least two books in her bag at all times.
