Julie Abouchar

April 23, 1963 - January 27, 2026

In Loving Memory

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved colleague, Julie Abouchar.

Julie was an incredible friend, collaborator, lawyer and leader. We are honoured to have worked alongside her during her time at MT+Co.

While at MT+Co., Julie led our Toronto office. She was a passionate advocate who brought humanity, caring, and dedication to everything she did, offering mentorship and guidance to all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.

She was endlessly dedicated to her family, always sharing loving stories about her husband, Bill, her son, Joshua, and her close-knit extended family.

Julie was curious and adventurous, and led every day with a genuine interest in people. She was a lifelong sailor and often shared stories of her time at Camp Newfound in Harrison, Maine, USA, first as a camper, as a counselor, camp parent, and, most recently, as a member of the board of trustees.

Julie's love of learning was constant, as she earned five degrees - two undergraduate degrees and three law degrees - including Earth Sciences and Environmental Law. Her Master's work has been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada. Julie trained as an environmental lawyer, serving the Lead Council to Walkerton Inquiry, with her legal career gravitating towards Indigenous issues. She worked tirelessly to pursue the interests of her clients and, in true Julie fashion, became friends with them all.

Our firm is better for having Julie as a part of it. We are so grateful to have had the honour of working alongside her. She will forever be missed.

A celebration of life will take place in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, Julie's family would appreciate support of the Indigenous education fund, Indspire (https://indspire.ca/).  Family and colleagues have offered to match the first $50,000 of donations in her name.
