About
Jigme Tsering is a student-at-law based in MT+Co.’s Toronto office. She first joined the firm as a Practice Placement Student in Fall/Winter 2025 and returned following the completion of her JD at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law in 2026, where she earned a specialization in Indigenous and Aboriginal Law.
Jigme works primarily with the firm’s Indigenous Law Group and also supports clients and colleagues on Environmental & Regulatory and Litigation & Dispute Resolution matters.
She is an active member of MT+Co.’s Happiness Committee, which plans and coordinates social and community-building initiatives across the firm.
EXPERTISE
During law school, Jigme served as President of the Asian Law Students’ Association where she connected the association to the broader Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers network. Jigme also volunteered as a student caseworker with the Lakehead University Community Legal Services clinic, providing access to legal services for low-income residents of Northwestern Ontario.
She also helped support the establishment of an Indigenous Human Rights Program clinic through a local Indigenous Friendship Centre, where she assisted with client intake and case processing.
Before pursuing law, Jigme earned an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, double majoring in Psychology and Human Exceptionality in Learning, with a minor in Anthropology.
WORTH NOTING
Outside of work, Jigme enjoys playing in a women’s basketball league and is passionate about sports, travel, and spending time outdoors.
Jigme is committed to giving back to her community. While in law school, she volunteered with a community kitchen preparing hot meals for community members and served as a funding coordinator for a school in Kathmandu, Nepal.
