Tour de Cure Team Feature – Lou Poskitt
July 28, 2022 Blog / People + Culture
Over the next few weeks, we are excited to introduce MT+Co.’s teammates for the upcoming Tour de Cure. Each rider must raise a minimum of $2,500 and will ride 50, 100, or 160 kilometers for the cause.
First up is Lou Poskitt!
Why are you riding in the Tour de Cure?
“The Tour de Cure is a cause near and dear to my heart. This will be my fifth time riding to raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation (four times with the Ride to Conquer Cancer). My Gran passed away from colon cancer and a woman who was like a second mother to me passed away from breast cancer. I ride in their memory with the hopes of advancing research and treatment to improve outcomes from cancer diagnoses. We were lucky that the treatment and interventions available to my Gran and Jacqui gave us a lot of time with them after they were diagnosed. I am excited to contribute to the Indigenous Cultural Safety Program in the hopes of improving detection and outcomes in Indigenous communities.”
What’s your fundraising goal? How much have you raised thus far?
“My current fundraising goal is $4,000.00. Through the generous support of my community, I have raised $3,200.00 so far.”
How do you plan on achieving your goal? What are your favourite parts/strategies for fundraising?
“I am going to start hitting up some of my personal service providers (realtor, mortgage brokers, insurance brokers) for donations. Many of these professionals have budgets set aside to donate to client initiatives. I am still hoping that someone will take me up on a hosted/catered weekend up at Poskitt Ranch in exchange for a generous donation to my ride! I don’t know that I have a favourite part, but definitely don’t hesitate to ask and make your requests personal!”
Tell us about your favourite or most memorable ride experience if you’ve ridden Tour de Cure before.
“The ride is amazing. It is uplifting to ride with cancer survivors and feel like you are contributing to something meaningful. Also, the waffles.”
