Tyson, a principal and co-lead of our Indigenous Law Group, has devoted his legal career to representing Indigenous Nations as a trusted advisor, skilled negotiator, and dedicated ally. His practice focuses on supporting our clients in developing resilient Indigenous governance structures and asserting Indigenous jurisdiction throughout British Columbia. Tyson has played a meaningful role in developing Indigenous led environmental oversight and land stewardship frameworks, advancing the protection and revitalization of Indigenous cultures, and securing hundreds of millions of dollars of direct economic benefits for Indigenous communities.
Tyson’s commitment goes beyond the legal work; he values the time spent in the communities he serves, enriching his practice with nuance, cultural context, and meaning. This approach allows him to cultivate deep professional and personal relationships with our clients.
As a mentor, Tyson takes pride in fostering relationships within our team. Having joined MT+Co. in our early days, he brings a well-rounded perspective to different roles within the firm. Tyson’s contributions extend to his election to our firm’s board of directors, where he plays a vital role in shaping MT+Co.’s future and strategic direction. He has also been a key member of the student recruitment team for the past six years.
Our Indigenous Law Group, co-led by Tyson and Tamara Napoleon, recognizes the significance of preserving and enhancing Indigenous sovereignty, self-governance, and cultural values. Our dedicated legal team is committed to supporting each Indigenous Nation’s distinct needs and objectives. The group, known for its diversity, dedication, and creativity, collectively brings extensive experience in all areas of legal and strategic advice required by our valued clients. Since 2009, the Indigenous Law Group has played a pivotal role in pushing boundaries, advancing reconciliation, redefining Indigenous-Crown relationships, reforming law and policy, and contributing to the advancement of Indigenous interests.
