Congratulations to MT+Co.’s New Principals

We are excited to announce the appointment of Sasha Platz and Nick Smith as principal lawyers.

Sasha is a member of our business law group and leads our Okanagan presence. She is called to the bar in Alberta and BC. Sasha’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, commercial leasing, real estate and finance.

Sasha’s work ethic enables her to be hands-on in all aspects of a transaction, including deal structuring, negotiating definitive legal agreements, advising on real estate and financing matters. She’s known for providing exceptional client support and communication, accrediting her trusted and long-standing client relationships.

David Allardice, managing principal at MT+Co. said “Sasha is a rising star in the mid-market M+A sector in BC and an emerging leader of our firm. She has all the attributes of a successful M+A lawyer – she is tireless, adaptable, practical, patient, and calm under pressure. This combination has enabled her to take on the role of lead lawyer on a number of significant transactions for the firm, developing trusted relationships with our key M+A clients and advisors.  She also leads by example, is dedicated to her work and honing her skills, and takes particular care in mentoring and supporting younger lawyers.  Sasha is the youngest principal at our firm for a reason. We are lucky to have such a dedicated and capable lawyer on our team.”

We are excited to continue watching Sasha grow MT+Co.’s presence in the Okanagan and expand her practice in BC and beyond.

Nick is a member of our Indigenous and Business Law Groups, working primarily with First Nations and First Nations businesses and not-for-profit societies.

Nick supports communities with their public services and business enterprises, supporting a wide range of needs, including: housing, child and family services (Indigenous child and family services laws), health, economic development structuring and governance, natural resource development, and commercial transactions. Nick’s work is informed by the inherent rights of his clients, and he is a trusted advisor in government-to-government and industry negotiations. Nick works with First Nations and the BC Assembly of First Nations to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and is an emerging leader in supporting truth and reconciliation in Canada.

Merle Alexander, a principal lawyer in our Indigenous Law Group said, “Nick Smith is stellar, and we recognized his potential from day one.  He’s developing a practice that serves our empowered clientele of Indigenous Peoples with all their solicitor needs.  From economic development to major project development to drafting of UNDRIP and legal orders consistent laws, Nick rises to all challenges.  We’re proud to have him at the principal’s table where he is in good company of now four Indigenous Principals.  We have a lot to be grateful for.”

We are incredibly proud of Sasha and Nick and look forward to this next chapter in their careers.
