When we first met Yvan in 2015, we knew this match was meant to be. He shares our passion for business and Aboriginal law, has an unusually diverse background in music and the Canadian Armed Forces, and inspires us daily with his leadership and positive attitude.

Yvan is a member of MT+Co.’s Business Advisory and First Nations Economic Development practice groups. His practice is primarily focused on advising private and early stage businesses, First Nations, and not-for-profits, regarding corporate, commercial, governance, policy development, and various other matters including:

  • Start up: Incorporations, shareholders’ agreements, reverse vesting agreements, employee stock option plans, and debt and equity financing (including exempt distributions of securities and equity crowdfunding), for start-ups and small businesses in various industries from technology to professional services
  • First Nations: Corporate organization, restructuring, policy development, and general corporate and commercial matters for First Nations, First Nations economic development groups, and First Nations-controlled businesses
  • Not-for Profits: Incorporation, structuring, and bylaw and policy development for not-for-profit societies and corporations
  • Commercial: Negotiating, reviewing, and drafting commercial agreements, leasing matters, and general business advisory
  • Emerging Industries: general business advisory to clients in the cannabis and financial technology sectors
  • Privacy and Compliance: advising on compliance with privacy and anti-spam legislation

Worth Noting

Yvan is a Director on the Board of Indspire (formerly the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation), an Indigenous-led national charity that invests in the education of Indigenous people. He is a decorated 16+ year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and remains active as a recruit instructor in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve at HMCS Discovery. Prior to commencing law school, Yvan studied music in New York City and worked as a professional drummer and percussionist. When he’s not working or contributing to his communities (which is seldom), Yvan enjoys playing music, riding his bike, and training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
